The Apprenticeship Program

Our apprenticeship program is administered by the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (JATC) and covers Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco and San Mateo Counties. Its purpose is to train apprentices to become journeypersons in the plastering industry. The committee, through its state approved standards, operates this apprenticeship program.

Our apprenticeship is four years in duration. Apprentices will receive wage increases every six months provided they have met the minimum on-the-job training hours and have attended classes regularly. Prior experience credit is possible. The Committee and your employer will evaluate you and decide if you are entitled to any prior experience credit.

The Apprentice Plasterer

During the course of their apprenticeship, apprentice plasterers will receive classroom and hands-on instruction in most aspects of the plastering industry

Apprentices will work toward becoming a skilled journeyperson in the plastering trade. A journeyperson will be asked to perform varies phases of plastering in both heavy commercial and residential construction.

Upon completion of her/his apprenticeship, the skilled plasterer should be able to face any and all challenges of an ever-changing industry. As time goes on and her/his skills are recognized, the journeyperson may become either a foreman or superintendent.
